Hierarchical Bengali Soceity

Contemporary Bengali society is far too hierarchical. If you look inside Bengali households in which more than one generation lives one may be able to observe behaviour in line with this theory. Also, take the example of the constant tension between students and college faculty.

Probably this could be one of the reasons why in the offices of the I.T. companies in Kolkata, managers having a good deal of exposure to work cultures in other Indian metros and who like to learn a thing or two from there discourage the use the highly venerable suffix ‘da’ after the names of people who are comparatively elder.
